This was Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025

PLANK‘s presentation at the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025 is again characterised by a simple, museum-like architecture with the evolution of its most iconic products at its centre. Among the new designs, PLANK presents SOL and SOMBRA, designed by Konstantin Grcic. Two lounge chairs that express distinct identities while sharing a common foundation.
SOL & SOMBRA – A Dialogue in Contrast

Like sun and shadow, SOL and SOMBRA were designed as a deliberate pair—two chairs that share a common foundation, yet express distinct identities. Rather than merging different qualities into one, they are intentionally separate: SOL is compact and agile, while SOMBRA is more generous and relaxed. Both chairs are crafted from solid ash, a material that not only ensures longevity but also evokes certain historical references. The vertically oriented legs and strictly horizontal armrests create a sense of space around the sitter, offering a calm, open presence. Details such as the slightly tapered foot ends and the carved-out armrests enhance the sense of craftsmanship in both designs.

SOL has a compact footprint and offers a low yet active seating posture. Its plywood seat and backrest are designed to interlock, allowing the backrest to flex freely and comfortably.

SOMBRA is wider, softer, and more classic in its design. It features an upholstered seat and backrest cushion, with broad armrests that provide a convenient surface for resting a phone, book, or drink.
MONZA soft / LEATHER by Konstantin Grcic
With the addition of a leather backrest, Plank presents an elegant evolution of the MONZA armchair. The handcrafted backrest combines high comfort with a refined, premium appearance. It is compatible with all frame variants and can be configured with a wooden seat, or an upholstered seat in fabric or leather – ideal for use in residential settings, high-end hospitality, or corporate and contract environments.
